| Abstract | Climatic observations of Amazonia and the detailed of the water and energy cycle over forests and pastures in Amazonia (ABRACOS Project) are used to propose a simple biogeographic model of the biome distribution in tropical South America, for the forest and savanna biomes. In this simple model the bound-ary between forest and savanna is primarily driven by the availability of soil moisture to the roots of the vegetation, therefore, directly linked to the duration of the rainy season. |
